Summer Rec League

MU Summer Rec League is an affordable & friendly soccer experience for 1st to 9th grade boys & girls. The League gives the opportunity for players to develop soccer skills, learn to be a teammate, and have FUN while playing two games per week.

MU Summer rec kickoff // JUNE 1, 2024, PEARL PARK

             10:00am - 11:00am: 1st & 2nd grade Boys & Girls
             11:15am - 12:15pm: 3rd & 4th grade Boys & Girls
             12:30pm - 1:30pm: 5th & 6th grade Boys & Girls
             1:45pm - 2:45pm: 7th-9th grade Boys & Girls

At the kickoff, players will participate in a short soccer skills clinic, so each player should bring a ball. Players will also meet their coach and their teammates and receive their uniform.

Where are the games played?

Games are played at Pearl Park, 414 East Diamond Lake Road, Minneapolis, MN 55419

What do the players need?

All players should have their soccer ball clearly marked with their name and phone number, a water bottle, shin guards, and outdoor shoes or cleats.

How long is the season?

The season will run June 3 to July 25.
Summer Rec Kick-Off will be held on Saturday, June 1.

1st to 9th Graders play either Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs from June 3 to July 25 (No games July 3rd or 4th)

Are teams mixed gender and Ages?

For 1st to 9th graders, boys and girls play on separate teams.

Breakdown of grades that play together:
1st & 2nd Grade
3rd & 4th Grade
5th & 6th Grade
7th, 8th & 9th Grade

Depending on registration numbers, MU reserves the right to form teams with just one grade year, instead of two. 

What day are the games played?

1st to 9th Grade teams plays two games per week 

  • Girls play Monday/Wednesday
  • Boys play Tuesday/Thursday

What times are the games played?

  • 1st & 2nd graders: may play at 5:00pm or 6:00pm
  • 3rd & 4th graders: may play at 6:00pm or 7:00pm  
  • 5th to 9th graders: may play at 7:00pm or 8:00pm

How many players are on the field?

1st & 2nd graders play 4 v 4 in quick, small sided games with 1/2 hour of practice.

3rd to 9th graders play 6 v 6.

Can I request to play with a friend?

Yes, there is a place to put ONE request during registration. We cannot guarantee that all requests will be granted though every attempt will be made.  Reminders: large “blocks” of players may be split up to foster equitable play among the league. Please only request one name, and use first and last name if possible. Please ensure that the player you request is in the same age bracket as your child (1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, 7th-9th).

Do I get a uniform?

All 1st to 9th grade players will receive a jersey, shorts and socks.

You do not need to select size during registration. Shin guards and cleats are not provided, but are required for the 3rd to 9th graders.

Do you use paid referees?

1st & 2nd grade teams are led by the coaches.

3rd to 9th grade games are officiated by paid referees.

OPTIONAL Sat & Sun rec plus skills academy

There will be optional Saturday & Sunday practices for all 1st-9th grade boys & girls

Dates: June 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, June 29, 30, July 13, 14, 20, 21
Saturdays: 9:30am to 10:30am (1st to 4th) & 10:30am to 11:30am (5th to 9th)
Sundays: 4:00pm to 5:00pm (1st to 4th)  & 5:00pm to 6:00pm (5th to 8th)

Cost: One Day: $65 // Both Days $115 (Price for Summer Rec Players)

What is the registration deadline?

There is no official registration deadline.
When age groups fill up, players will be placed on a wait list. If you are not able to register online because the age group is full you can send an email to Rec Admin to be placed on the waitlist.

Are we in need of parent coaches?

YES!

The Minneapolis United summer rec program is a grassroots program that only happens with the generosity of our volunteer coaches. We would implore you to consider volunteering to coach your child's team this summer if able - it makes a huge difference for our players and is personally rewarding! In addition, MU will offer a 50% registration discount for one head coach of a team, or a 25% discount to two co-coaches of a team. We have a coaches meeting in May to cover everything!! There will be a place to mark your interest during registration. Thank you for considering!

2024 Fees

Fees are determined by the cost of our programs. Fees pay for game fields, field equipment, insurance, referees, uniforms, and other Rec expenses. 

  • 1st to 9th Grade in Fall of 2024: $165
  • Rec Plus Skills Academy: One Day $65 // Both Days $115

Financial Aid

REFUNDS

Refunds requested by May 15th will be charged a processing fee of $15.

Refunds requested by June 1st will be charged a processing fee of $35.

Refunds requested after June 2nd or later will only be processed for medical reasons and will be charged a processing fee of $35.

For players who would like to transition to our Competitive Program, please check out our 8U - 11U tryouts (July 15-18, 2024) and the 12U-19U tryouts (Sat, July 27 - Sun, July 28, 2024) at the Neiman Sports Complex at Ft. WHAT IS THE WEATHER POLICY?

MU follows MYSA policy regarding weather.  Games will be cancelled if: 
     1.  Lightning or extreme weather is present
     2.  Extreme heat (see below)
     3.  Fields are too wet due to heavy rainfall (as determined by Minneapolis Parks and Rec)

Heat Index Recommendations:
     Up to 89°--Normal play
     90°-99°--Mandatory two-minute water breaks per half with running time. Each half shortened by five minutes.
     100° - 105°--Mandatory two-minute water breaks per half with running time. Each half shortened by ten minutes.
     105°Suspend play

If lightning is within five miles, with or without hearing thunder, the game(s) or practice(s) should be suspended and shelter sought.

We highly recommend signing up for text alerts for quick up to date information!

Games will be canceled if there is heavy rain, lightning, standing water on the fields or if the heat index is too high. To check for cancellations, follow @MUREC on Twitter, call the weather line (612-547-9090) or check the home page of the website under FIELD STATUS for the latest update.  We use AccuWeather as our measure. Games will NOT be made up if missed. Picture days will have make-up dates.

IF GAMES ARE CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER ARE THERE MAKE-UP GAMES?
